Passport:
               The Indian passport is the primary travel document issued by the Government of India to its citizens. It enables the bearer to travel internationally and serves as proof of Indian citizenship. Passports are issued at 37 locations across the country and at 162 Indian missions (High Commissions, Embassies and Consular posts) abroad.

How to Apply:
              We can apply passport in TWO ways for fresh passport:
1. Online form submission
2. Procedure for submission at Passport Seva Kendra’s (PSKs)/Mini Passport Seva Kendra’s (Mini PSKs)

Online Form Submission Procedure:
For filling and submitting your application online, you need to be a registered user on the Passport Seva website. To create your user account for online form submission, register now.

Step 1: Log into your Passport Seva user account.
Step 2: Select the Apply Passport Online menu option in the left navigation menu.
Step 3: Fill in the required details in the form and submit the form online.
Step 4 (Optional): Upload the required documents using the Upload Document link on the Applicant Home Page. The documents to be uploaded must be self-attested (signed by the applicant) and must be in pdf format.
Step 5: You are required to be present at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Mini Passport Seva Kendra (Mini PSK) along with original documents for completion of the application submission process. Schedule an appointment with the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/ Mini Passport Seva Kendra (Mini PSK) that comes under the jurisdiction of applicant residence. Online appointment is mandatory to walk into PSK for further processing. Only emergency/medical cases may go to PSK without appointment - service will be provided at the discretion of PSK in -charge. You will need to re-submit the application in case the form submission process at PSK is not completed within 3 month of submitting the application online.

Steps for form submission at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Mini Passport Seva Kendra (Mini PSK) (Walk-in):
Step 1: Collect a token from the Token Issuance Counter after showing your filled passport application form and supporting documents along with the originals(original documents not to be attached with application).
Step 2: Wait for your turn in the waiting area till the token number is displayed on the display board. Submit the token, filled application form and self-attested (signed by the applicant) photocopies of the supporting documents to the Citizen Service Executive (CSE) at the service counter displayed with your token number.
Step 3: Complete activities at the counter, such as signing / thumb impression, the print out of the application form, getting your photograph and fingerprints captured, and making fee 
Note: Minor applicants below 4 years of age should carry a passport size photograph (on a white background) while visiting Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
In case you are paying the fee through Credit/ Debit card, only card of self or family member whose details have been mentioned in the passport application form are acceptable. Only Master and Visa Credit/ Debit cards are accepted (This service will be available soon).
Step 4: Collect the fee acknowledgement receipt from the Citizen Service Executive (CSE) (after successful data entry) and go to the Verification counter, when Token number is displayed on the display-board for verification of your application with original documents.All original documents must be produced.
Step 5: Go to the Granting counter, when Token number is displayed on display-board for further processing of your application.
Step 6: Collect the print-out of the final status of your application (acknowledgement letter) at the exit gate.

Used documents:
Proof of date of birth (DOB):
Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Births & Deaths
School leaving certificate or a secondary school leaving certificate, or a certificate of recognized boards from the school last attended by the applicant, or any other recognized educational institution
Affidavit sworn before a Magistrate, or notary stating date and place of birth as per the specimen in Annexure 'A' by illiterate or semi-illiterate applicants (less than 5th class)
If the DOB is after January 26th, 1989, only Birth Certificates (BC) issued by the Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Births & Deaths is acceptable. For others School Leaving Certificate (Class 10) or similar is accepted.
Proof of Address
One among the following:
Water bill
Telephone (land-line or post paid mobile bill)
Electricity bill
One year statement (with transactions) and passbook of running bank account (scheduled commercial bank excluding regional rural banks and local area banks).
Income Tax Assessment Order
Election Commission Photo ID card
Proof of Gas Connection
Certificate from Employer of reputed companies on letter head
Spouse's passport copy (first and last page including family details), provided the applicant's present address matches the address mentioned in the spouses passport
Applicant's current and valid ration card
Parent's passport copy, in case of minors

The process involves using in Tatkal:
Step 1: Having all Documents ready before application.
Step 2: e-Form Submission/Online Form submission. (ONLY for applications at RPO/PSK)
Step 3: Scheduling an Appointment at a PSK/RPO. (ONLY for applications at RPO/PSK)
Step 4: Visit the PSK/RPO/DPC with the Documents, Submission of Form.
Step 5: Track your application till receipt of passport
Step 1: Documents Needed when Applying for an Indian Passport
The documentation requirements are quite simple. The list of documents required in each specific case can be checked from the Documents Required link on the home page.
The documents required may vary or additional documents may be required depending on the mode of application (normal/tatkal), where applied (eg DPC or PSK), applicants profile (for instance an infant / child or adult over 65 years of age), marital status, an employee (incl retired) of Govt/PSU/Defense/Statuary body etc. Residents of Jammu and Kashmir and Nagaland, family members of serving or retired Govt/PSU employees, official or diplomatic passport holders, and students staying away from normal home have additional requirements. If you fall in any of these categories, it is prudent to check the official website Documents Required link to know what documents you need. Additional annexures or affidavits might be required in certain cases.
This article assumes that an e-Form/Online application is being made for an adult person in the normal mode.
One set of photo copies of each of the below documents should be submitted along with the application form and the originals should be available for cross checking during submission.
Organize all the documents neatly and in order. All photocopies need to be on a full A4 sheet. All documents to be submitted (photo copies or originals) need to be self attested. Photos if submitted are not being signed.
The following documents are required.
Proof of Date of Birth (DOB)
You are required to submit at least 1 of the documents listed below.
Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Births & Deaths

Documents required for Emigration Check Not Required (ECNR):
Though the list is quite long, any educational certificate that is equivalent to matriculation (Class 10) or above is sufficient. For the full list please refer the official website. This is required for Tatkal applicants as well.
ECNR stamps are now NOT affixed. Only certain categories of applicants may have Emigration Check Required (ECR) stamp on their passports.
Tatkal Applicants:
Those applying in Tatkal need to submit a few additional documents:
Standard Affidavit as per Annexure 'I'
Documents for ECNR as above.
Verification Certificate Annexure 'F' OR (according to a few posters some RPO's accept only a VC and not the 3 docs while some ask for both) any 3 out of 15 documents listed as under:

  • Birth Certificates issued unxder the RBD Act
  • Student Photo Identity Cards issued by Government Recognized Educational Institutions in respect of full time courses
  • Driving Licenses (valid and within the jurisdiction of State of submission of application)
  • Bank / Kisan / Post Office Passbooks
  • Income Tax Identity (PAN) Cards
  • Gas Connection Bill (of one year before and current bill)
Verification:
       After this process of giving documents there will be police verification will be done within 15 days. Again we have to submit documents whatever we have giving for applying passport.
Fees Structure:
1.Fresh Passport (36 pages) of 10 years validity(including minors between 15 to 18 years of age, who wish to get a  10 years full validity passport)  Rs 1,000/-
2. Fresh Passport (60 pages) of 10 years validity Rs. 1,500/-
3.Fresh Passport for Minors (below 18 years of Age) of 5 years validity or till the minor attains the age of 18 whichever is earlier Rs 600/-
4. Duplicate Passport (36 pages) in lieu of lost, damaged or stolen passport Rs. 2500/-
5. Duplicate Passport (60 pages) in lieu of lost, damaged or stolen passport Rs. 3000/-
6. Police Clearance Certificate/ ECNR/Additional Endorsements Rs.300/-

7.In case of Change of Address, Name, Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Appearance, Spouse Name, Name of Parents/Legal Guardians  Rs.1000/-   [Fresh passport booklet will be issued]
